February 6, The Woodlands – The Woodlands Township is offering several exciting spring programs that are open to the public.
Walk in the Woods: Local Snakes
Renowned herpetologist Matt Abernathy will present “Local Snakes 101,” the first offering in the spring lineup for the Township’s “Walk in The Woods” nature lecture series. Abernathy will discuss how to identify ribbon and garter snakes and how to distinguish copperhead snakes from other brown snakes. He’ll distinguish harmless from venomous snakes. Abernathy will present safety tips and examine common “mythconceptions” concerning snakes. He’ll also bring live specimens with him for the enjoyment of all.
Abernathy will present his talk, geared towards all ages, at 7 p.m., February 9, 2017, L.G.I. Lecture Hall, McCullough Junior High School, 3800 South Panther Creek Drive, The Woodlands.
Arts in the Park: Teen Talent Show
On Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Rob Fleming Park, teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 will show off their singing, dancing, comedy, magic, and thespian talent during the Arts in the Park celebration from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Rob Fleming Park, 6055 Creekside Forest Drive. The Arts in the Park event will also feature local artists’ original artwork for sale, a Kids Zone, and other live performances. A variety of food concessions will be available from food trucks, the 21st century version of the gourmet restaurant.
If you’ve ever noticed that you’re a “button-pusher” fanatic at science museums, then you’ll love the “Touch-a-Truck” event on Saturday, February 18, 2017, from 9 a.m. until noon, at the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center, 6535 Creekside Forest Drive, The Woodlands. The event is free and involves getting up and close with a wide variety of big trucks. There will also be a giant sandbox for diverse politicians and political activists to learn communication and coping skills with each other.
