Conroe, January 28 – The truth really hurts. At the conclusion of the January 23, 2018, meeting of the Montgomery County Commissioners Court, the Publisher of The Golden Hammer, Montgomery County’s leading daily newspaper, explained the purpose of this newspaper as well as the purpose of Publisher Eric Yollick’s conservatism.
During the speech, which lasted approximately two minutes, Precinct 2 County Commissioner Charlie Riley began interrupting Yollick with out-of-control sneering while Montgomery County Judge Craig Doyal erupted at the end of the comments with a demand that Yollick seek out Doyal’s puppet editor of the Courier blog, Andy Dubois. (It’s become pretty clear in recent months that the Courier blog is little more than a Doyal mouthpiece.)
Here’s the entirety of the truth that caused Doyal and Riley to lose their self-control.
“My name is Eric Yollick. I live in Precinct 3.
“For months I asked you, Judge Doyal, to meet with me to discuss whatever you wanted to discuss and to discuss my specific proposals for spending reductions in the Montgomery County government.
“On March 12, 2017, you finally agreed to meet as long as you could have your closest allies Marc Davenport and Duane Ham at the meeting with you. The meeting lasted two-and-a-half hours and was held at your office late Sunday afternoon.
“I never got to describe my spending reduction proposals to you, because we only talked about what you, Judge Doyal, wanted to discuss.
“At the end of the meeting, you asked ‘Is my head now off the chopping block?’ I answered, ‘No.’ But you failed to ask the important question, ‘Why not?’
“I want to give you the answer to the question you should’ve asked but didn’t. The purpose of the meeting was to ask you to consider serious ways to reducing spending. Instead, you wanted to talk about politics instead of rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on serious ways to reduce spending.
“That’s fundamentally the problem with Craig Doyal and Charlie Riley. They won’t consider policy that’s best for the citizens. It’s all about politics. For me, it’s not at all personal.
[Loud sneering begins from Riley at this point.]
“So we find ourselves at a crossroads. Three major policies of yours are terrible.
“#1 Right now you have the power to raise spending, raise salaries, buy a multi-million dollar ERP system, and ignore citizen proposals to cut spending. You’ll lose that power in 11 months.
“#2 Right now you have the power to build a tollroad over the citizens’ objections. But you’ll lose that power in 11 months.
“#3 Right now you have the power to build the Woodlands Parkway Extension. But you’ll lose that power in 11 months.
“Your choices are a genuine shame. You and I were friends, but friendship doesn’t mean that I ethically should tolerate corruption and arrogance.”
Doyal responded angrily,
“Mr. Yollick I would refer you to Mr. Dubois [editor of the struggling Courier blog] who was moderating the debate held where you misconstrued my comments and get your facts straight, please.”
