Eric Yollick, The Golden Hammer
The Golden Hammer, Montgomery County’s leading daily newspaper, is beginning the endorsements for the November 6, 2018, General Election with an easy one: United States Senator Ted Cruz for re-election to continue to represent Texas in the United States Senate.
Senator Cruz has the second best voting record, after Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, in the Senate, according to the American Conservative Union. Better yet, Cruz has received a 0% rating from the pro-abortion Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
Perhaps most important of all, Senator Cruz consistently votes against all of the Congressional appropriations bills with the exception of the Department of Defense.
There are some gigantic issues where Cruz has shown remarkable national leadership. In all of the craziness concerning the efforts to repeal Obamacare, the Senator offered the smartest solution of all, which, unfortunately, his liberal colleagues ignored. Cruz’s approach was to repeal Obamacare entirely but leave the protection for pre-existing conditions under mandatory insurance coverage in place. Readers may recall that it was actually the Republican Party, not the other party, that had originally authored legislation to protect insureds from pre-existing condition exclusions.
After Hurricane Harvey, Texas and the Gulf Coast needed help. Ted Cruz came to the rescue with the largest disaster aid package in American history which he marshaled through the Congress. (Cruz’s Irish liberal opponent voted against the Harvey relief.)
Cruz is one of a handful of United States Senators who are serious about reducing federal spending. He’s offered dozens of creative suggestions how to increase freedom and reduce the tax burden that government largesse brings. Cruz has worked closely with the Trump administration for regulatory reform and to bring the governmental “deep state” to the light of day.
Ted Cruz is a brilliant man. Harvard Law School Professor Laurence Tribe, a renowned Constitutional Law scholar, one said that Cruz was one of the two best law school students Tribe ever enjoyed in all of his classes over the years. Cruz was the first Hispanic law clerk to a Chief Justice of the United States (William Rehnquist).
As a United States Senator, Cruz has gotten important committee assignments to represent the interests of the Lone Star State. He’s the chairman of the Space and Science Subcommittee of the Senator Commerce Committee, chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee of the Senator Judiciary Committee, and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Despite running for President in 2016 against Donald Trump in the primaries, after President Trump’s election, Senator Cruz has been one of the strongest supporters of President Trump’s amazing administration.
Senator Cruz is a reliable vote in the United States Senate for President Trump’s agenda. Americans need Ted Cruz to continue his good work there.
