Kelli Ann Cox, Publisher, The Golden Hammer
The Golden Hammer, Montgomery County’s leading daily newspaper, endorses Sheriff Rand Henderson for re-election in the November 3, 2020, General Election. Sheriff Henderson has done an excellent job as Sheriff and certainly deserves another term representing the people of Montgomery County.
Henderson is about as close to a true constitutional conservative as any law enforcement officer this newspaper has ever observed. He’s a true believer in the principles of the Founding Fathers and is sometimes even willing to express his views publicly in the face of other politicians or elected representatives who might stray from the course.
Henderson’s term as Sheriff started with some challenges. The Sheriff’s Office was fractured and very politically-driven. Henderson made a mistake, based upon some bad advice, of appointing his own team rather than choosing the leadership based upon merit. After some unfortunate occurrences, Henderson learned his lesson and has now made decisions based upon merit.
In fact, Sheriff Henderson has brought in an excellent team of law enforcement officers from top to bottom in the Sheriff’s Office. He has mended relationships with the patrol officers and has done a great job encouraging all of the peace officers to develop strong relationships with the Montgomery County community.
Sheriff Henderson works for us. He deserves our support. Voters should give him a landslide victory on November 3.
