Conroe, February 3 – Dave Roberts, the keynote speaker during a Montgomery County Tea Party event on Monday, February 1, 2021, in Conroe to organize the local Republican Party, blasted United States Congressman Kevin Brady, Republican of The Woodlands, as a “carpetbagger” with a liberal voting record. Specifically, Roberts responded to a comment by conservative political activist Jon Bouche who had referred to Montgomery County as “the most conservative county in the US.”
Roberts, who spoke to the group of more than one hundred people, said, “Jon [Bouche] said ‘we’re the most conservative county in the United States. I’m sorry but that’s not true. You don’t send a carpetbagger to Congress, who has the same voting record of [Houston Congresswoman] Sheila Jackson Lee.”
Craig Lewellyn, Campaign Manager for Congressman Brady, responded, “Kevin Brady is a Texan with a successful conservative record in Congress. To claim otherwise is objectively false.”
In an exclusive interview yesterday with The Golden Hammer, Montgomery County’s leading daily newspaper, Roberts explained, “A carpetbagger is someone from out of state. He’s a non-Texan and takes money from out-of-state interests. He doesn’t vote the way his constituents want but the way that his out-of-state contributors want.” Roberts provided the example that Brady has taken money from ex-Nissan Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn, who is currently fleeing from Japanese authorities who have brought criminal charges against him. “Ghosn donated money to Brady through a PAC and gave $17,000 to him through a lobbying firm, Paul Weiss law firm, that supports anti-Second Amendment and anti-Life positions. It’s hypocritical.” This newspaper has not confirmed that accusation.
Roberts noted that the Conservative Review‘s “Liberty Scorecard” gave both Brady and his colleague, Sheila Jackson Lee, F ratings. “The Liberty Scorecard is the most accurate of any of these scorecard ratings. It’s pretty accurate,” Robert explained.
Brady did, however, receive an 85% positive rating from the American Conservative Union, while Lee received a 0% rating from that group, which has rated members of Congress for more than half a century.
As for being a “carpetbagger,” Brady was, in fact, born in Vermillion, South Dakota, in 1955. He grew up in Rapid City. In 1982, Brady moved to Texas to work as the President of the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. He moved to a similar position in The Woodlands in 1985. Real property records reflect that Brady and his wife, Cathy Brady, purchased the current home in which they reside in The Woodlands on March 17, 1999. Brady was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1990 and to the United States Congress in 1996.
Roberts explained to this newspaper, “Brady takes a lot of credit for supposedly being the author of President Trump’s tax bill. That’s like Babe Ruth’s batboy taking credit for Babe Ruth’s home runs. Brady was in Congress for 22 years before President Trump got that legislation passed and Brady never got anything like that done before. Why not?”
