Riley’s lies about his plan to put major road through middle of Jones State Forest getting (a lot) worse

Montgomery County Commissioners Precinct 2, May 19 – Precinct 2 Montgomery County Commissioner Charlie Riley has taken it upon himself to post signs around the County announcing that some “THEY ARE LYING TO YOU.” Riley is having his Bill Clintonesque “I did not have sexual relations with that woman” moment, because what Riley is trying to do is cover up his authorship and open support for the Gosling Road Extension which Riley designed to cut directly through the W.G. Jones State Forest.

In response to The Golden Hammer‘s article presenting the facts with respect to Riley’s plan to build the Gosling Road Extension northward from The Woodlands directly through the Jones State Forest, Riley spent most of Thursday, May 17, 2018, trying to deny the facts. The article appeared as “Breaking News: Riley Intends To Plow Through W.G. Jones State Forest With Major Thoroughfare Extension Of Gosling Road,” The Golden Hammer, May 17, 2018. Riley filmed a video to deny he ever planned to build the Gosling Road Extension. Riley posted an advertisement on social media in which he stated he is not building the Gosling Road Extension.

Riley’s Clintonesque denials of the cold, hard facts took an even more bizarre twist on Friday, May 18, when Riley campaign signs appeared at local polling places which said in red letters “CHARLIE WOULD NEVER DESTROY OUR FORESTS! THEY ARE LYING TO YOU!”

Riley campaign sign, May 18, 2018.

A major problem with Riley’s bizarre signs is that it’s entirely unclear who “They” happens to be who Riley contends are perpetrating these lies about the challenged County Commissioner. The use of a pronoun without a proper antecedent is always most disturbing.

Therefore, The Golden Hammer, Montgomery County’s leading daily newspaper seeks to answer the question: WHO MIGHT CHARLIE RILEY REFER TO WHEN HE SAYS “THEY ARE LYING TO YOU!”?

In other words, who are the people who are saying that Charlie Riley, the hapless victim here, has authored and approve the plan to extend Gosling Road northward right through the W.G. Jones State Forest? The answers to the identity of those people, who are lying in the eyes of Charlie Riley, might surprise you. We’ll take them in chronological order.

Identifying Charlie Riley’s “LYING…THEY”

Liar #1: Houston Galveston Area Council Transportation Policy Committee (Date of Lie: early January, 2016)

The decision to build an extension of Gosling Road northward right through the W.G. Jones State Forest must have come from somewhere. The earliest suggestion of that plan appeared in the early January, 2016, Major Thoroughfare Plan of the Houston-Galveston Area Council (“HGAC”), the regional planning group comprised of numerous area local governments, and its Transportation Policy Committee, which approved the projects listed in the HGAC Major Thoroughfare Plan.

The specific map showing the plan for the Gosling Road Extension which cuts right through the W.G. Jones State Forest northward from F.M. 1488 at the intersection of Peoples Road (Gosling) and F.M. 1488.

The Google Map of the same area reveals that the white area due north of F.M. 1488 is actually forest, although the terrible liars (according to Riley) at HGAC showed the area as some unexplained blank white area.

Google Map, based upon satellite photography, showing that the W.G. Jones State Forest does, in fact, continue northward from the current intersection of Peoples Road (where the Gosling Extension will lay) and F.M. 1488. Notice that the W.G. Jones State Forest extends north of F.M. 1488 as anyone who has driven on F.M. 1488 would likely recall.

Clearly, the Houston-Galveston Area Council and its Transportation Policy Committee have perpetrated the lie, in Riley’s world view, that Riley supported a plan to build the extension of Gosling Road through the Jones State Forest.

But there’s a bit of a problem with pointing the finger at HGAC’s Transportation Policy Committee. You see, the Montgomery County representative on that Committee is none other than Charlie Riley!

Oops.

Liar #2: Montgomery County Commissioners Court (Date of Lie: January 26, 2016)

On January 26, 2016, as reflected in the official minutes for the Montgomery County Commissioners Court, the Commissioners Court voted unanimously to approve the HGAC Major Thoroughfare Plan 2016, which specifically included the Gosling Road Extension construction directly through the middle of the Jones State Forest.

It’s pretty apparent that those five members of the Commissioners Court are liars perpetrating the lie that Riley supported the Gosling Road Project.

But there’s a bit of a problem with pointing the finger at the Commissioners Court. You see, Riley was one of the people who voted to approve the HGAC Plan on January 26, 2016.

Liar #3: Montgomery County Clerk Mark Turnbull (Date of Lie: February, 2016)

Clearly, the minutes reflecting that Riley voted on January 26, 2016, in favor of the plan to build the Gosling Road Extension directly through the middle of the Jones State Forest must be a total fabrication of Montgomery County Clerk Mark Turnbull.

But there’s a bit of a problem pointing the finger at Turnbull. Riley voted to approve those minutes at the next Commissioners Court meeting, as shown on the County government’s website (unless that website is intentionally lying as well).

Liar #4: Montgomery County Engineer Mark Mooney (Date of Lie: continuously from January 26, 2016, to the present)

Montgomery County Engineer Mark Mooney must be one of those people perpetrating the lie that Riley supports the Gosling Road Project to cut through the middle of the Jones State Forest.

Why? Because Mooney’s page on the official County government website has the full map of the HGAC Major Thoroughfare Plan 2016, which includes the area shown in the screen shot above.

It gets worse as far as Mooney’s lies about Riley’s support of the Gosling Road Project cutting through the Jones State Forest. On the map, which Mooney shows on his page at http://www.mctx.org/departments/departments_d_-_f/engineering/index.php, Mooney placed the notation that the Commissioners Court approved the map and the plan on January 26, 2016. Apparently, Mooney, Turnbull, and the entire Commissioners Court must be lying about Riley’s plans with respect to the Gosling Road Extension northward.

It gets even worse. Mooney also has presented a “2016 Major Thoroughfare Functional Classification Map” on his page. That map shows the outline of the completed Gosling Road Extension going directly through the Jones State Forest. The reader may find that terrible “lie” at:

2016 Montgomery County Thoroughfare Plan Roadway Functional Classification.

Here’s a blowup screenshot of the area of the W.G. Jones State Forest where Gosling Road will cut directly.

Blown up screen shot showing Riley’s Gosling Road Extension cutting through the current area of the W.G. Jones State Forest. Once again, this blowup taken directly from the Montgomery County government website (www.mctx.org) shows that the portion of the Jones State Forest north of F.M. 1488 is shown in white. Could that be because Riley intends to allow James Metts to log and clear the entire area of the Jones State Forest north of F.M. 1488?

Ultimately, though, these maps on Mooney’s page on the County website reveal that Mooney must be one of “THEY” who are “LYING” about Riley’s intentions to build the Gosling Road Extension through the middle of the Jones State Forest.

If you’re wondering what the area immediately north of F.M. 1488 at Peoples Road looks like now, even though Riley and his HGAC compadres show that area totally in white, here’s a photograph of the W.G. Jones State Forest (unfortunately with an ugly fat man standing in front of it) on May 18, 2018.

Pristine W.G. Jones State Forest north of F.M. 1488 at the intersection with Peoples Road (Gosling Road). Unfortunately, Jabba the Hutt in the foreground blocks the full view.

Liar #5: Community Impact Newspaper (Date of Lie, May 4, 2016)

As this newspaper previously reported, the Community Impact Newspaper reported a story on May 4, 2016, in which they quoted Riley openly discussing the Gosling Road Extension and specifically that he supported the construction project. Here are the terrible lies they reported:

Screen shot from May 4, 2016, Community Impact Newspaper article where they interviewed Charlie Riley.

Here’s what Riley said on May 4, 2016, as another newspaper reported and quoted him: “Riley said thoroughfares, such as Gosling Road and Branch Crossing Drive extensions, are needed for public safety.”

Charlie Riley quoted on May 4, 2016: “Riley said thoroughfares, such as Gosling Road and Branch Crossing Drive extensions, are needed for public safety.”

Liar 6: Some guy named Charlie Riley (Date of Lie: May 4, 2016)

The next paragraph in the Community Impact Newspaper article was: “‘The extension of Gosling [and] the extension of Old Conroe Road [where the Branch Crossing extension would come out to F.M. 1488] – all of those will help safety and mobility,’ Riley said. ‘They have been on the thoroughfare plan since 1979, so why oppose it now? It is too late to be concerned about it, and they are north of FM 1488. It is in our precinct.’”

Charlie Riley quoted on May 4, 2016: “The extension of Gosling [and] the extension of Old Conroe Road [where the Branch Crossing extension would come out to F.M. 1488] – all of those will help safety and mobility…They have been on the thoroughfare plan since 1979, so why oppose it now? It is too late to be concerned about it, and they are north of FM 1488. It is in our precinct.”

Well, it’s pretty obvious that guy Riley was one of the “THEY” who are “LYING TO YOU.”

Complete List of Liars

Riley has told the world in his May 18 campaign signs that “THEY ARE LYING TO YOU” but he didn’t identify who “THEY” happen to be.

Now, we know who, from the perspective of Riley, “THEY” are:

  • The Houston Galveston Area Council Transportation Policy Committee (of which Riley is a member),
  • The Montgomery County Commissioners Court (of which Riley is a member),
  • Montgomery County Clerk Mark Turnbull (whose minutes Riley voted to approve),
  • Montgomery County Engineer Mark Mooney,
  • the Community Impact Newspaper, and
  • Charlie Riley.

As Bill Clinton must have found during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, it’s difficult being the only person on the entire planet who is telling the truth!

Not.
