President Trump’s Inaugural Speech Echoes in Montgomery County

Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States.

January 20, 2017 – President Donald J. Trump’s Inaugural Address was remarkable for it brevity, but more importantly, for the message the 45th President extended to the hearts of every American citizen. The basic theme follows:

“For too long, a small group in our nation’s Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished — but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered — but the jobs left, and the factories closed.

“The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation’s capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.

“That all changes — starting right here, and right now, because this moment is your moment: it belongs to you.

“It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America. This is your day. This is your celebration. And this, the United States of America, is your country.”

The Big Question

Is Montgomery County your community? It’s a wonderful place. There are great people, beautiful land, amazing creatures, and the spirit of God high and low. Our neighbors have wonderful senses of ethics, humor, and compassion. Even our weather is great for enjoying the wonders of the outdoors.

Like many other communities in this great Nation, it is time for the citizens of our county to take back our power from the establishment. We can no longer tolerate:

Taxing and spending us as fast as politically possible. Since 2000, our county government has grabbed dollars from us, by taxing our land, as fast as it can possibly do so. Just recently, Moody’s upgraded the bond rating of the county government, not because of prudent fiscal policies and investments. Rather, Moody’s raised our bond rating to AAA, because (1) the county government has successfully increased taxation and government spending at a massive rate, and (2) the beautiful physical attributes of this area have lured larger population. The Moody’s upgrade represents a failure, just as the low interest rates of the Federal Reserve mask frighteningly unsound national fiscal policy.

Corruption to a degree beyond any one human’s comprehension. The waste of road, bridge, and drainage funds on crony contracts is so great under the regime of Craig Doyal, Charlie Riley, and Mike Meador that it’s hard to keep up with it. At every turn, they’re hiding dirty deals with the same people who miraculously appear on the campaign finance reports as political contributors.

The County Judge and Commissioners simply fail to manage the County government. Commissioner James Noack, a lone fiscal conservative, often receives accolades for the common sense financial decisions he suggests to the government as a whole. By managing the County’s debt, Noack has saved taxpayers millions of dollars in a short span. The real question, however, is why have Doyal, Meador, and Riley not enacted those common sense solutions previously. They do not manage. They don’t know what’s going on inside the County government, with the exception of Meador who knows and should feel the blame for the corruption and nepotism has perpetrates on a daily basis.

Nepotism is rampant and must stop. It directly interferes with County government operations. Bill Meador, Lindsey Doyal, and Deanne Riley should have serious discussions with their family members. One of each family member should not be an employee of the County. Nepotism at levels of the organizational chart is also not acceptable and genuinely interferes with sound management practices.

The County Judge and County Commissioners should recuse themselves from any matter involving a conflict of interest or the appearance thereof. The days of voting to let multimillion contracts to your business partner, of creating jobs for your spouse, of voting on the department budget where you brother works, and the like must end.

Montgomery County is your county. Take it back.
