New Caney, June 22 – On June 21, 2017, around 9 a.m., the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office simultaneously served three search warrants, each at an illegal gaming location that used “8-liner” type gambling machines. The locations, all in New Caney were:
Coleman’s Citgo Gas Station – 25982 FM 1485E
Exxon Gas Station – 24712 FM 1485E
Bills 3G’s Conoco Gas Station – 23550 FM 1485E
After a lengthy undercover investigation the officers found that cash payouts were being given at these locations, making this operation illegal. Evidence from each machine was collected as well as the currency that was in each machine, all of which will be processed and used as the investigation continues. Charges against the operators of those businesses may be pending, but at this time, none have been made other than Jimmy Moon, 50 years of age from Houston who was found playing one of the games. Moon was arrested on an outstanding 3rd degree felony warrant for Assault of Family Member / Impede Breath Circulation.
These illegal gaming operations attract to crime. During the undercover operation, investigators were even offered illegal narcotics to purchase which offers further strengthened this point. In the past, dispatch has received numerous calls for disturbances, assaults, narcotics complaints, welfare checks and even a robbery. By trying to curtailing the operations, the Constable and District Attorney are hoping that it will have a trickledown effect to not only these locations, but other locations as well.
Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden explained, “We have received many complaints from citizens in reference to these types of places. These types of locations attract criminals, illegal activity and narcotics. Whether we agree or not about gambling in Texas, it is still against the law and we are sworn to uphold the laws of the state.”
