Conroe, December 115 – Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon is the Fifth Most Powerful of the Power Top Ten, the ten most powerful people in Montgomery County. Ligon carefully manages a great office of talented prosecutors and largely controls the judiciary in the Montgomery County Courthouse.

The Golden Hammer, Montgomery County’s leading daily newspaper, continues the tradition of listing the Power Top Ten, the ten most powerful people in Montgomery County. The Power Top Ten doesn’t commemorate the ten best people in Montgomery County necessarily, but the most powerful people who are actually able to accomplish political or policy goals. In other words, she or he can get things done in Montgomery County. This year is the fifth that The Golden Hammer is publishing this list. In 2016, the former Publisher of this newspaper published the list on social media before this newspaper began.

So far, The Golden Hammer has named five other people in the Power Top Ten:

#6, Conservative Republican political activist Ginger Russell

#7, Precinct 2 Montgomery County Commissioner Charlie Riley

#8, Conroe ISD Superintendent Curtis Null

#9, Businessman and power broker Simon Sequeira

#10, Precinct 1 Montgomery County Commissioner Wayne Mack.

#5: Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon

District Attorney Brett Ligon remains the most popular political figure in Montgomery County. When candidates hire pollsters to gauge popularity, Ligon always appears at the top of likely voter responses of the person with the most positive image among elected politicians in this community.

Ligon’s success as District Attorney goes far beyond mere popularity, however, for two primary reasons. First, Ligon is an extraordinarily competent practicing attorney, who surrounds himself with excellent managers, such as First Assistant District Attorney Mike Holley, and senior Assistant District Attorneys Joel Daniels and Tamara Holland, and many others.

Ligon has a forceful personality, a serious nature, and a perspicacious mind. In particularly strong fashion, Ligon reflects the desire of Montgomery County citizens to take a very tough approach on criminals, but the irony is that he also shows enormous fair-mindedness.

As a District Attorney, Ligon has shown no desire to stay out of courtrooms. Ligon has tried numerous cases himself. Other judicial districts have retained Ligon as a special prosecutor to try cases for them as well.

As a District Attorney, Ligon has turned his office into a training ground for excellent young lawyers to learn how to prosecute criminal cases. Ligon not only trains his team in trial techniques but also in the ethics of what they do.

As for real crimes, such as DWIs, murders, robberies, drug offenses, pedophiles, and prostitution, Brett Ligon should make every well-meaning Montgomery County citizen feel safe when they’re on the streets. Ligon’s consistent and tough prosecution of those offenses has had a powerfully positive impact on this community. Criminals know they’ll lose the capacity to commit other crimes, if they get caught. Thanks to Ligon, that’s he strong reputation Montgomery County enjoys.

It’s important to recognize Ligon’s career as District Attorney for what it is. Ligon has been tremendously effective as a prosecutor. It has become clear that several of the seven District Judges and six County Court at Law Judges very much fear Ligon. No politician has more influence over the Montgomery County Courthouse than does Ligon. That showed in the dominance of his District Attorney’s Office in the field of candidates running for open judicial positions in the March 1, 2022, Republican Primary Election. Ligon clearly has enormous influence over several of the members of the Board of Judges who may not be as independent of his control as they ought to be.

Ligon is very good at what he does. No Republican or Democrat dared run against him in 2020, as he always runs for re-election unopposed.

Clearly, Brett Ligon is someone who can get things done in Montgomery County.
