
NEW YORK (AP), September 11 — Rafael Nadal won his 16th Grand Slam title by sweeping Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in the U.S. Open final.
The 28th-seeded Anderson was bidding to become the lowest-ranked U.S. Open champion ever.
Nadal’s win was inspiring. For an old guy, all of 31 years old, it was remarkable to see him win over a much younger competitor. In fact, Nadal dominated the entire match.
Nadal certain tired in the third set and his obsessiveness and compulsion appeared to get worse. Nevertheless, his will to win and his amazing training got him through to win this major title.
