Conroe, October 15 – At its Tuesday, October 13, 2020, meeting, the Montgomery County Republican Party’s (MCRP) County Executive Committee (CEC), composed of all elected Precinct Chairs, voted unanimously to adopt a resolution calling upon all local school districts only to teach basic core curricula and to end the use of so-called “social and emotional learning” in classrooms. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has been an important mechanism by which leftist curriculum coordinators and educators have indoctrinated tens of millions of children to hold liberal political policy views.
The Casel Guide defines SEL as “the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.”
The author of the resolution was Precinct 74 Republican Chair Ginger Russell, a longtime conservative political activist with a strong reputation as an education expert, particularly with respect to the design of public school education curricula. Russell told The Golden Hammer, “I wrote and offered this resolution, because conservatives complain about education and how it’s been detrimental to our country and society as a whole. We need to reverse what’s going on in our public school system.”
When asked what the MCRP will do with the resolution now that the Republican Party has adopted it, Russell explained, “We have started an Education Committee on the CEC and intend to present this resolution to our local school boards, as well as to Representatives Cecil Bell, Steve Toth, and Will Metcalf. They need to make policies to reverse the damage done to our children in our school systems.”
Russell said that all six of the school districts in Montgomery County – Conroe, Splendora, Caney, Willis, Magnolia, and Montgomery – have adopted SEL as a major part of their curriculum.
The MCRP’s resolution calling for an end of SEL follows in its entirety:
America’s Constitutional Republic is being transformed from within. America’s public education system is no longer
about providing a solid academic course of study based on reading, writing, math, science, history and government.
Today, our government run schools use methods like Social Emotional Learning (SEL). SEL is a fundamental shift in
education, changing from a transmission of knowledge that parents still expect from schools to an emphasis on altering
student’s attitudes, values, beliefs and behavior in order to instill a radical new and oftentimes contradictory “politically
correct” value system such as radical environmentalism, radical feminism, critical theory, Marxism, social justice,
population control, class struggle, socialism, climate change, hyper racialism, and more. America’s government
education system has succumbed to the detrimental pedagogy of social engineering.
WHEREAS, the Texas Republican Party Platform states Plank 136 “National Core Curriculum: We oppose the use of
national or international standards in the State of Texas (i.e., Common Core, CSCOPE, United Nations Inclusion,
WHEREAS, Proponents of SEL call for focusing less on academic content and knowledge in schools,
and more on student emotions, attributes, mindsets, values, and behaviors.
WHEREAS, SEL unfairly labels and collects student’s data (ex: special ed, medical needs, etc) (preK through age 21)
based off of faulty (and often non medical) assessments and misinterpreted understanding of these due to non
medical personnel or rushed results to receive Fed or state mandate/funding. The data collected stays with the
student for life.
WHEREAS, the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) has Social Emotional Learning and is actually the
rewrite of No Child Left Behind.
WHEREAS, Social Emotional Learning is being promoted by the United Nations, World Economic Forum and the
World Health Organization
WHEREAS, Social Emotional Learning is being used to accomplish the fourth goal of United Nations Sustainable
WHEREAS, the United Nation’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) states “Social
Emotional Learning is the Key to Building Global Citizenship”. In 2017 President Trump pulled the United
States out of UNESCO .
WHEREAS, The organization SEL4TX has partnered with the George Soros Action Fund & the Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation in promoting SEL in Texas Schools.
Be it Resolved that the Montgomery County Republican Party
1. Calls on all Texas Independent School Districts to stop accepting Federal, State and foundational grants/funding
mandating the implementation of “Social Emotional Learning”
2. Calls for all Texas Federal and State Legislators and Senators to write and pass education policy halting the
implementation of any progressive education programs tied to the United Nations, Federal and State mandates.
3. Calls for all Texas State Legislators & Senators to call upon the Governor of Texas to abolish and reverse
mandates of the Texas Commission on “Next Generation Assessments and Accountability (NGAA) established
by the 84th Texas Legislature”. NGAA called for Texas to “Align the State Accountability System with that of the
federal ESSA requirements ensuring that the results are consistent and share common goals.”
4. Calls on all Texas Legislators and Senators to reestablish the independence of Texas school districts with the job of teaching students a basic core curriculum giving students equal opportunity to succeed.
