Porter, February 1 – The Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team (MOCONET) Interdiction Unit made a traffic stop in the 22000 block of Loop 494 in Porter on February 1. The driver was Roberto Velasco-Salinas of McAllen, Texas, a border town with troubling connections to numerous drug cartels and to drug smuggling. During the roadside investigation, Velasco-Salinas appeared nervous and visibly shaking. Deputies conducted a search of his vehicle at which time they discovered four kilograms of cocaine and approximately $15,000 in cash. They arrested Velasco-Salinas, charged him with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance and booked him in the Montgomery County Jail.
MOCONET is a cooperative multi-law-enforcement-agency task force which includes the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Walker County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety-CID, Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Walker County District Attorney’s Office, Customs and Border Protection-Houston Air and Marine Operations, and Homeland Security Investigation. Lieutenant Scott Spencer of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office explained that participating agencies have recognized that a special collaborative effort was necessary to combat more effectively the drug distribution and collection of drug proceeds throughout the area.
