Conroe, February 14 – Sheriff Rand Henderson announced that the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) located, tased, and arrested habitual criminal Gene Denton. On January 26, 2017, Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Task Force were dispatched to 14900 Creighton Road, Conroe, Texas, regarding the recovery of a stolen vehicle. They learned that the owner of the stolen vehicle had observed his vehicle stopped at the intersection of SH 105 and Security Forest Drive. The owner had attempted to approach the vehicle but the driver fled west bound on SH 105. The complainant contacted 911, at which time patrol units with the MCSO responded. Deputies located the stolen vehicle, but the driver of the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The suspect driver exited the vehicle and fled into the wooded area on Creighton Road and eluded capture.
Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force continued their investigation and identified the driver as Gene Denton, a 33 year old white male from Conroe, Texas. During the investigation to identify the driver, Sheriff’s Detectives learned that Denton was also involved in a Home Invasion and Aggravated Robbery located in the Roy Harris Loop area of the County.
Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force Detectives as well as Major Case Detectives were contacted regarding a third incident involving Denton. During this incident, Denton approached the complainant at Carl Barton Park in Conroe. Denton asked this person for a ride to a residence located in the Security Forest subdivision. Upon their arrival at another address, Denton struck the victim with his elbow, knocking him to the ground. Denton then stole the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene.
On January 27, 2017, The Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force received a tip regarding the location of Gene Denton, as well as the stolen vehicle Denton was operating. Detectives arrived on-scene and observed the suspect flee, on-foot, only to be tased and arrested.
While on scene, Detectives recovered the stolen vehicle as well as a Methamphetamine and a .22 caliber handgun. The stolen vehicle has been returned to its rightful owner. Denton was transported to the Montgomery County Jail, and has been charged with Felon in possession of a Firearm, Possession of a controlled substance, and Evading Arrest or Detention. Denton is also a confirmed gang member.
The Montgomery County Auto Theft Detectives Division and the Montgomery County Major Case Unit worked this investigation jointly.
