Magnolia, Texas (September 8, 2017) – A Magnolia High School graduate from the class of 2007, Logan Newton, wanted to help a first responder affected by the storm. “We are a local family business and understand Sgt. Laurie Bagwell’s family was displaced and greatly affected by the storm. We can’t begin to understand what she is going through and wanted to take some of the burden off her shoulders by giving her $25,000,” explained Newton. First responders take care of others first in times of crisis and this is true of Sergeant Laurie Bagwell, who is with Montgomery County Constable’s Office, Precinct 5 and one of the many victims affected by Hurricane Harvey.
During the storm, Sgt. Bagwell and her husband, who works for Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, were both on duty taking care of the residents of Montgomery County while their home took on 7 feet of water. This was the second time in 15 months the law enforcement couple has lost everything in their home.
Newton Energy Partners is a family owned oil and gas business in The Woodlands. Sgt. Bagwell learned of the news through a phone call set up by Magnolia 6 campus Principal Lisa Bertrand. Mrs. Bertrand’s son, who is also a police officer, has been long time friends with Logan.
Newton, “We have heard of all the great work she does in the Magnolia community and for the school district as their lead district security resource officer. This was something we wanted to do to give back.”
Sgt. Bagwell was overwhelmed by the news and grateful for the outpouring of support the community has shown. While the family has been displaced, another community business, Quadvest, is graciously housing the family rent free in a rental property owned by the company.
