Kabuki theater? Governor Abbott to hold staged “listening session” on Texas economy in San Antonio

That is not a Governor Greg Abbott press conference, but it is kabuki theater.

The Golden Hammer Staff Reports

Austin and San Antonio, January 26 – Texas Governor Greg Abbott will hold a staged “listening session” on the Texas economy in San Antonio later today. While Abbott’s press office claims the governor will listen to “how the state can better support businesses and workers” from “construction workers, small business leaders, and advocates,” in reality the “kabuki theater” event will be a highly-stylized and staged event to render the appearance of a governor who might actually listen.

If Abbott were serious about “how Texas can support small businesses and workers in the wake of COVID-19,” Abbott would invite the general public to attend and participate. That would never happen, however, because the message Abbott would hear is precisely what he does not want to hear: “The best way for the state to support small businesses and workers in the wake of COVID-19 is for the Governor and the State government to get out of the way, stop issuing illegal mandates closing down businesses and giving government every advantage in competition with free markets, and stop scaring Texas citizens over an illness which is little more than another type of the flu.”
