“Moms Against the Bond” are a group of moms who opposed the CISD package for a variety of reasons, although the primary complaint about the $807 package is that it’s a tax hike which has almost nothing whatsoever to do with improving educational outcomes in the school district.
Conroe ISD’s last bond package was $485 million and did not involve a tax rate increase. This $807 million bond proposal includes a 3 cent tax rate hike as well as a push for higher property tax appraisals, totaling a 64% tax increase over the next ten (10) years.
Since CISD extends bonds over 25 years, children currently in the school district will pay that massive tax amount when they’re young adults struggling to make ends meet for their own young families. Without providing them any additional tools in the form of stronger core education, CISD’s proposed bond is little more than a burden to support the growth of CISD’s administrative bureaucracy.
