Immigration “Holds” Placed on Suspects, Sheriff Henderson Explains; Henderson’s Management Team to Meet with ICE Representatives

Conroe, February 11 – Several dozen readers of The Golden Hammer had expressed concerns regarding whether the arrest of a capital murder suspect and the arrests of several suspects on Cock-Fighting charges had resulted in prosecution of civil enforcement actions under Federal Immigration laws.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “Hold” has been placed on Bryan Rafael Rodriguez-Valtierra and he has received “No Bond” in reference to the February 7, 2017 murder of Mr. Pete Figueroa Jr. Bryan Rafael Rodriguez-Valtierra immigration status has been determined to be “illegal.” Pursuant to Federal Law and guidance from the State of Texas, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) contacted ICE regarding Bryan Rafael Rodriguez-Valtierra status. ICE requested that MCSO hold Rodriguez-Valtierrez pending Federal involvement.

Furthermore, the four individuals arrested for Cock-Fighting on February 5, 2017 at 27300 Royal Coach, Conroe, Texas 77306 are also currently on an ICE “Hold” due to their “illegal” status.

Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson has stated that he is dedicated to enforcing the laws of this State and the Nation when it comes to safeguarding the citizens of Montgomery County. To that end, Sheriff Henderson and members of his staff will be meeting with ICE officials on February 23, 2017 to discuss the agency’s official entry into the 287(g) Program. The 287(g) program, one of ICE’s top partnership initiatives, allows a state and local law enforcement entity to enter into a partnership with ICE, under a joint Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).  The state or local entity receives delegated authority for immigration enforcement within their jurisdictions.

Sheriff Henderson has previously publicly supported the detainer of illegal immigrants who have committed crime, as per his statement made on January 29, 2017, as a public safety strategy. Furthermore, the Sheriff has enjoyed a strong partnership with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, who takes a no-nonsense stance on violent criminal activity that impacts Montgomery County citizens.
