Guest Column: Reagan Reed, Why I’m Not Running for Republican County Chairman

President Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, knew he received good advice when he consulted with Reagan Reed, Montgomery County GOP Precinct Chairman, conservative activist, and a Correspondent for Empower Texans.

Since I’ve been asked about this a lot over the last few months, here is my definite answer: After a lot of prayer and consideration, I have decided not to run for Republican County Chairman.  I had not intended to run for county chair in 2020, but after a number of precinct chairs strongly encouraged  me as the vice chair to step up for the chairman’s position, I decided to at least give it some thought.

There are a few reasons I decided not to, but the bottom line is that the time is just not right.  I have no desire to ever be a career politician or “climb the ladder”. I’m not opposed to running for higher office sometime down the road (although the thought is a little revolting), but I’m young and have plenty of time to decide…  Right now my focus is on other things.

For me, politics is not about having a position: it’s about serving the people and fighting for conservative values, more freedom, and less government.  I am in a good position to promote the cause now as Vice County Chair and a Precinct Chair.

Therefore, I will be seeking re-election as Republican Precinct 50 Chair for the Willis area in the March 3, 2020 Primary Election.  When I first ran in 2016, I was somewhat a novice. We will be running 10 times the campaign in 2020.  The campaign will not be about what I plan to do, but it will be about what our team has done.  I hope to earn your support again to continue serving you.

I’m looking forward to knocking on every Republican voter’s door in Precinct 50 and visiting with you directly about how we can keep Montgomery County red.

To all my colleagues on the Montgomery County Republican Party Executive Committee, if you have stood with us in support of the Bylaws, you have my 100% support and I will be working my tail off to ensure you return for another term.  Looking forward to serving with you all again.

Finally, another reason I’m not running for Republican County Chairman is because there is someone else who is far more qualified and would make a much better candidate.  This person would be a terrific Chairman, and I have strongly encouraged him to run.  I am 100% committed to electing a Chairman who will follow the Rules and unite our Party under the Platform.

It’s been such an honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with so many of you amazing patriots in the fight for liberty.  Here’s to many more years to come!
