Filled with hate, venom towards his perceived enemies, Montgomery County Commissioner Riley won’t talk with any of them

Precinct 2 County Commissioner Charlie Riley.

Magnolia, June 9 – Filled with hate and venom towards his many perceived enemies, Precinct 2 Montgomery County Commissioner won’t talk with any of them. “Charlie doesn’t plan to meet with or talk with anyone who didn’t support him in the runoff,” one of Riley’s closest aides told The Golden Hammer yesterday afternoon on condition of anonymity. “His wife, Deanne, tells him who he can meet with and she doesn’t want him talking to any of those people.”

On Tuesday, May 22, 2018, the evening of the Republican Runoff Election, Riley told a room with some of his supporters, “I will talk with anyone as long as they’ll talk with me.” Unlike Mark Keough, the Republican Nominee for Montgomery County Judge, who has reached out to many supporters of his electoral opponent Craig Doyal, since May 22, Riley has refused to meet with individuals who didn’t support him for re-election, including several law enforcement officials, more than a dozen conservative Republican Precinct Chairs in Riley’s Commissioners Precinct 2, and the Publisher of The Golden Hammer.

Riley’s top aide explained, “He’s decided he doesn’t want to have to deal with any of those people. And he’s sick and tired of The Woodlands. He ain’t gonna deal with those people any longer.”

Riley’s greatest policy achievements, however, have come after his communication with others, such as conservative Republican activist Kelli Cook who eventually convinced Riley to support the 20% homestead exemption, or the Publisher of this newspaper and Precinct 3 County Commissioner James Noack who convinced Riley to support reform of the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.

In the Commissioners Court, Riley has been a reliable vote for his mentor Craig Doyal, the lame duck County Judge who is leaving office at the end of 2018. Riley is losing a major source of guidance for his votes on the Commissioners Court. That’s a major problem for Riley, because he generally doesn’t prepare for Commissioners Court meetings, isn’t familiar with the County Budget, and doesn’t review most backup material provided to the members of the Commissioners Court from County Departments. Riley is not much of a reader or a studier.

With Doyal gone, Riley will likely be quite lost on the Commissioners Court. Conservative Republicans are the vast majority of Montgomery County citizens, the vast majority of local political activists, and the vast majority of the vocal citizens of Precinct 2.

It’s a shame that Riley seeks to isolate himself from anyone who has ideas different from his. It’s a shame that Riley seeks to isolate himself from anyone who has ideas.
