The Woodlands, January 2 – A Facebook page with the ironic name “Alden Bridge (Uncensored)” allows censorship as long as it’s directed at people who are not to the far left of the political spectrum. After The Golden Hammer ran an editorial endorsing United States Senator Ted Cruz for re-election on New Year’s Day, the page’s administrator Paul Phelps banned Montgomery County’s leading newspaper from sharing its articles on the supposedly “uncensored” website. It figures; the German-born Phelps works for a Russian firm with close ties to Hillary Clinton, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the governments of Iran and Syria.
How it started and ended
Facebook page Alden Bridge (Uncensored) began when Phelps, who is an active member of the democrat party, decided that he wanted an Alden Bridge forum where political liberals living in the Alden Bridge area could express their far left beliefs. That Facebook page became a major rallying point for ultraliberal Carol Stromatt, the democrat precinct chair, who recently won election to the Woodlands Township Board. It’s also become a page where the “Republican In Name Only” supporters of Precinct 2 County Commissioner Charlie Riley have staked a claim.
After The Golden Hammer began to share its articles in Alden Bridge (Uncensored), democrats and Riley supporters began to ignore the content of the articles, many of which were critical of Riley and other liberals, and chose instead to mount fictitious attacks against this newspaper’s Publisher. At one point, in a Private Message, the Publisher asked Phelps whether he intended to try to “cyberbully the Publisher as a back door form of censorship.” Phelps responded that was his exact plan of attack.
Phelps then began to cooperate through social media with some of the convicted felons who work for corrupt local political boss Marc Davenport.
The problem was, however, that The Golden Hammer‘s Publisher just ignored the personal attacks, as always, and continued the discussion on an intelligent plain. That, of course, made Phelps and some of the leftist extremists who bully with him even angrier.
It all ended after The Golden Hammer‘s endorsement of Cruz for re-election on January 1. Several of the readers of this newspaper confronted Phelps who confirmed that he banned The Golden Hammer from the “uncensored” page.
Phelps’ ties to Russia, Clinton, Iran, and Syria
Phelps works as a senior human resources executive for Trubnaya Metallurgicheskaya Kompaniya (TMK), based in Moscow, Russia.
Phelps’ TMK is quite an interesting company, however. Renowned international journalist Christine Brim wrote “Did Russian’s Half a Million to Her Advisor Influence Hillary on Iran?” which The Federalist published on October 27, 2016, in which Brim explained:
“My new investigative report…exposes Hillary Clinton’s own damaging ties to Russia and Iran while she was secretary of State. Her Foreign Affairs Policy Advisor Thomas Pickering [in her 2016 presidential campaign] was a paid director for the Russian company Trubnaya Metallurgicheskaya Kompaniya (TMK) from June 30, 2009 to June 26, 2012. TMK is majority-owned by Russian billionaire oligarch Dmitry Pumpyansky, a close Putin ally.
“In a February 5, 2010 $412,500,000 convertible bond offering circular issued by its financing subsidiary TMK Bonds S.A, TMK even formally disclosed that it was selling to Iran and Syria, stating ‘As a globally operating organization, we also conduct business with customers in Iran and Syria. The U.S. Department of State designates these countries as state sponsors of terrorism and subjects them to export controls.’
“TMK’s U.S. division, TMK IPSCO, has plants in Pennsylvania, Texas, Arkansas, Ohio, Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Kentucky. TMK pledged its U.S. assets as guarantors for international financing in at least two offers. Several executive orders on Iranian economic sanctions prohibit ‘any approval, financing, facilitation, or guarantee by a United States person, wherever located, of a transaction by a foreign person [company].'”
Perhaps, The Golden Hammer and its readers are better off staying as far away from the ultraliberal, Russian-directed Phelps and his far left Facebook page.
The shame of it all
In the year 2018, our nation needs to have more intelligent discussion, not less, even with those with whom we may disagree. The lack of discussion is precisely the manner in which dictatorships arise and thrive. That’s why the Nazis in Germany censored so zealously: they wanted to suppress opposing viewpoints and information. Adolf Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf, “The chief function of propaganda is to convenience the masses, whose slowness of understanding needs to be given time so they may absorb information; and only constant repetition will finally succeed in imprinting any idea on their mind.”
Freedom House, a human rights organization, published a report in 2016 which described the Russian government’s methods of “extralegal intimidation” to try to make members of the press who are critical of the Putin regime stop publishing. Apparently, Phelps learned his methods from his Russian masters.
