Let’s give three cheers for the North Shore Republican Women (NSRW) of Montgomery County and for their leadership of the Republican Party! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray!

At their most recent meeting, NSRW presented checks to State Board of Education Member Will Hickman, candidate for Justice of the 9th Court of Appeals Jay Wright, and Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar, all of whom face opponents from the “other party” in the November 8, 2022, General Election. NSRW announced they’re sending checks to all statewide Republican candidates who face such opponents in the General Election as well.

NSRW explained that the checks and financial support of Republican candidates is “[o]ne of the purposes of our annual fundraiser.”

NSRW completely got it right. The purpose of the Republican Party is to elect Republican candidates and to defeat their opponents from the “other party.” One of the ways that purpose gets accomplished is for the Republican Party to provide financial support to General Election candidates.

The Montgomery County Republican Party (MCRP) should take note of NSRW’s leadership. Each year, MCRP has fundraisers of its own. Sadly, MCRP raises its funds from candidates, when the money flow should go in the opposite direction.

MCRP stopped providing checks to Republican candidates on a regular basis after the 1994 General Election. That was the beginning of the dysfunction of the Montgomery County Republican Party when it clearly began to lose its way.

While MCRP suffers from some controversy, it’s clear that County Republican Chairman Bryan Christ hopes to restore MCRP’s function as the leader in general election campaigns. All Republicans should support him in that effort.

Likewise, all local Republicans should support NSRW’s campaign fund to ensure that organizational support and money flow to Republican candidates who face opponents in the General Election. Winning general election campaigns is the entire purpose of political parties.
