Editorial: Dictatorial Response to Chinese Coronavirus has turned government into welfare agency

On March 24, 2020, musician Britney Spears generated international controversy when she posted on Instagram her support for the redistriction of wealth in response to the COVID-19 threat.

Government liberals have successfully turned all local governments into purveyors of welfare through the mechanism of the CARES Act, which the United States Congress enacted in April.

Here’s how it worked. First, the government overreached to the threat of Chinese Coronavirus by taking data-less prognostications about millions of deaths from the disease and using them as a pretext to issue illegal and unconstitutional mandates to order business closures and lockdowns.

Second, the illegal government panic-induced mandates led to massive unemployment and enormous financial strain on American families and individuals. Of course, at that point, liberal policy advocates stepped in to advocate passage of a massive creation of money, which will deflate the value of the American dollar, through passage of the $2.2 trillion CARES Act.

Under the CARES Act, Montgomery County received $105 million which the County government must spend to help with the local impact of the government’s mismanagement of the COVID-19 threat. Local Montgomery County citizens can’t blame the Commissioners Court for wanting to spend money Montgomery County taxpayers sent to Washington, D.C., when they’re required to do so, or else they’ll lose the funds to other localities.

As Precinct 3 Montgomery County Commissioner James Noack observed, “Montgomery County Commissioners Court designated $10 million to go toward rental assistance during a special session Monday, June 1. The funds come from the $2.2 trillion CARES Act passed by the federal government, in which $105 million was sent to Montgomery County to help with the local impact of COVID-19. The economic impact of the devastating government-mandated shutdown is extreme. We must use these funds diligently and help all who have been affected.”

Renters will receive up to $2,500 by applying to local nonprofits who are the handlers of the government funds. For example, in The Woodlands and Precinct 3, Interfaith will be the purveyor of the welfare. Families or individuals facing financial hardshit “related to COVID-19” will be eligible to receive up to $2,500 total for two months of rent and utilities.

This program is an example of the plain fact: government messes up everything it touches outside of law enforcement and national defense. Government caused the economic downturn through the mandated shutdown. Now, government has expanded its largesse by spending money the Nation doesn’t actually have on a massive welfare program created in response to the government’s own mismanagement.

Britney Spears would be so proud.
