Montgomery County, February 18 – “Criminally Indicted” signs appeared this morning all across Montgomery County on political signs of Montgomery County Judge Craig Doyal and Precinct 2 County Commissioner Charlie Riley who are running for re-election in the March 6, 2018, Republican Primary Election despite the fact that they, along with their political consultant, local political boss Marc Davenport, are under indictment for “official misconduct” in the form of alleged violations of the Texas Open Meetings Act. If convicted, Doyal and Riley would be removed from office under Texas law.
The Golden Hammer reached out to the Doyal and Riley campaigns this morning to determine if they had information with respect to the source of the signs. Neither campaign responded to telephone calls. This newspaper also asked others who own property near where the signs are whether there is information, including possible video footage, of the people who placed the signs.
It does not appear that the Doyal and Riley campaigns placed the signs themselves even for the purpose of full disclosure that they could face removal from office even if voters return them for additional terms of office.
