Mar-A-Lago (Florida), October 9 – Former President Donald Trump roundly criticized Texas House of Representative Speaker Dade Phelan for blocking two critical pieces of election integrity and reform legislation during the Third Special Session of the 87th Texas Legislature. Trump issued the statement in very clear terms his criticism of Speaker Phelan for blocking the forensic audit bill, Senator Paul Bettencourt’s Senate Bill 47, and the increased penalties legislation for election fraud, Senator Bryan Hughes’ Senate Bill 10.
Senate Bill 10 passed the Texas Senate on an 18 to 13 vote on October 5 on a third reading. Speaker Phelan assigned the legislation to the House Constitutional Rights and Remedies Committee, which has failed to schedule the bill for a public hearing, rather than to the House Elections Committee, where it would receive expedited consideration under the leadership of State Representative Briscoe Cain, the Republican of Deer Park and Elections Committee Chairman.
Senate Bill 47 passed the Texas Senate on a 17 to 14 vote also on October 5 on a third reading. Phelan has failed to assigned that legislation to any committee for consideration in the Texas House of Representatives.
