Conroe, February 13 – Conroe Independent School District (CISD) Superintendent Dr. Curtis Null has chickened out and has refused to debate, or even discuss the merits of the school district’s $807 million, plus interest, bond package set for a voter referendum on May 4, 2019. Null’s new position on such a debate or discussion strikes disparately from his strong advocacy for $827 million of projects for inclusion in a bond package during seven meetings of the 2018 Facilities Planning Committee of CISD. Null served as a full Committee member and presented the bond package and argued for it repeatedly during the seven meetings, according to five members (of whom two are current CISD employees) of the Committee who spoke to The Golden Hammer on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.

Through CISD Spokesperson Sarah Blakelock, Null declined The Golden Hammer‘s Publisher’s invitation to conduct a Lincoln-Douglas-style debate over whether voters should support or oppose the $807 million bond package.

At 4:57 p.m., yesterday, Tuesday, February 12, 2019, Blakelock sent the following email to the Publisher:

“Dr. Null is unable to accept your invitation. Under Texas law, he cannot advocate for or against the bond. He can only provide factual information.

“Thank you,

“Sarah”

After receiving the email, the Publisher spoke with this newspaper’s editorial staff and said, “Gosh, I would hope Dr. Null would ‘only provide factual information.’ That’s precisely what I would provide in a debate or forum to explain to voters why they should reject this $807 million, plus interest, tax hike. I only intend to provide factual information, although, so far, I’ve noticed that CISD is missing many of the facts in their advocacy for the bond package.”

According to Null, Conroe ISD is ALREADY BREAKING THE LAW!

By Null’s analytical approach – that “he cannot advocate for or against the bond” – Conroe ISD clearly is already breaking “Texas law.” The school district has a large display on its home page on its website advertising the bond. When one clicks on the display, the second page is also a Conroe ISD page, which is a political advertisement advocating the $807 million bond “To address the GROWTH & SUSTAINABILITY and SAFETY & SECURITY needs of Conroe ISD while impacting the tax rate as minimally as possible.” (See screen shot below.)

The Publisher of The Golden Hammer added, “Clearly, CISD is not ‘only providing factual information.’ If Dr. Null, who holds a Ph.D. in Professional Leadership, is unwilling to discuss his factual information in a give-and-take exchange regarding the CISD’s $807 million bond package with me, an uneducated ruffian, then regular citizens should feel grave concern over the district’s inability to justify the crazed spending proposals within the bond referendum.”

The Publisher explained further, “I did not graduate from Conroe ISD’s schools. Furthermore, I never learned how to write.”
